SRS Paranormal is fortunate to have a diverse team with skilled professionals in many unique areas of expertise. We can forensically look at an original photo and find expert-based explanations for many commonly mistaken paranormal anomalies. She is also able to spot fake and manipulated photos. There are paranormal photos that are authentic. Even though we can debunk 95% of orbs, any light anomaly that is witnessed by your eyes and captured on camera is certainly more compelling, especially when paranormal activity is documented with meters, psychics, or other means. Examples below are from our previous Photographic Analyst during her time with SRS Paranormal.
This is a classic example of dust being illuminated by a flash. The anomaly was not seen by anyone in the room, nor did it appear in any other camera angle or frame.
Back Scatter commonly occurs in dusty environments or environments with higher moisture where condensation commonly occurs in basements, attics, or abandoned buildings.
One possible explanation of colored orbs is a lens flare, appearing here as an orange ball. Lens flare can occur when the light source is not clearly seen. It often occurs as refraction in the camera caused by a reflection of a shiny surface.
Taken by SRS Paranormal founder Matthew Sorge while in downtown Boston, MA at the Granary burial ground. This photo clearly shows a single ball. Many would say since it was the only frame the ball appeared in, it must be paranormal, it's not its tree pollen.
Notice the dimples once magnified. These align perfectly with a sample of highly magnified New England tree pollen which was heavily in bloom at the time of the photo.
Notice when overlayed on the orb the dimples align perfectly. Yes, only a single piece of pollen can sometimes be illuminated by a flash. This anomaly was not seen by the naked eye and no other indicators were present to indicate a paranormal occurrence had occurred. This is sadly just tree pollen!
Photo was taken by Case Manager Al James at the same exact time as the prior example at the Granary burial ground. Normally, this would be more compelling for the argument of being an actual orb. However, given the flash had fired from both cameras and movement is present this is likely a rare occurrence where the conditions were just right to capture the pollen again.
Pareidolia - is the tendency for the incorrect perception of a stimulus as an object, pattern, or meaning known to the observer. Such as seeing shapes in clouds, seeing faces in inanimate objects or abstract patterns, or hearing hidden messages in music.-Wikipedia. * We do not own the meme nor did we create it!
This is a classic case of a physical characteristic of the environment that repeatedly is misidentified as paranormal. The actual wall has a defect in the plaster and the paint is slightly faded over the defect, this creates the illusion of a face. Pareidiola or matrixing can occur and must be ruled out in the search for truth.
This photo was submitted to us for analysis, there are several critical markers that indicate this is a manipulated photo. Can you spot the issues? *All photos submitted are subject to our reuse and publication as noted on the submission form.*
The first tell-tale-sign is the exposure values of the three alleged apparitions, they are completely incorrect compared to the background. Even an unseen entity emitting its own light would appear with the same exposure value in the frame, it may be over-exposed if emitting its own light. Secondly, the light illuminating these figures is coming from both sides. This is completely wrong, considering the overall exposure value and light sources known within the frame. This was most likely an attempt to make the figures glow.
The arrow on the right shows the undeniable evidence of "scaring", this occurs when something is cut and pasted into a background and the attempts to blend the overlay result is disturbed pixels. Additionally, every time a photo is opened, edited, or shared new data is populated in the EXIF/MetaData file. A digital fingerprint remains when the original image is used. The arrow on the left shows some seaweed along the feet of the figures with additional scaring indicating it was also added in. This section of seaweed is identical to what is seen at the far left of the previous photo.
The dark figure on the left was not present in the real world. This was shot on a cell phone during a public event. The original file was submitted and had no changes to its MetaData file. The size of the figure, based on the mantel and the known height of the woman in the photo, the figure would be nearly seven feet tall and has no feet. So, lets breakdown the proof.
Even though the shadowy apparition was not visible to anyone present. The exposure is clean and even over the entire frame. Additionally, the actual wallpaper print can be seen showing through the area in question. Something that would be incredibly difficult to manipulate and would leave evidence if attempted.
Looking at both the area where the apparition is and the edge of the mantel, both areas are properly lit and exposed, the shadows cast are consistent with the single light source of the flashlight. Given no manipulation evidence is present, all aspects of the photo are unaltered. After intense scrutiny, no changes to the original file, and metadata, and the physical appearance of the apparitions, this is an authentic apparition photo.
This photo was one frame in a series of 12. All frames were reviewed and the original file was submitted. There are no changes to the metadata file. This figure appeared in only one of the 12 frames. Given the height of the window and the location of the head of the figure, this is child-sized. This location has two child spirits, a brother and sister.
Here we can see no odd exposures within the frame, it's even and there are no signs of scarring. The arrows show the figure is behind the frame. The glass also has the wavy appearance seen over the shadow area, further validating the figure is inside the room. This figure cannot be explained by any earthly explanation and remains SRS Paranormal's one and only confirmed paranormal photo.
We placed an investigator in the room as close as we could get him to the glass at the window. This is a full-grown male. We can see he is much higher in the window frame, much farther back, and his appearance is different.
This old sewing machine table was blocking the window. We placed the lamp in the window sill to show how deep the window area is, even beyond the depth of the sewing table. There is no way any shadow play could explain the child figure and this is why trying to debunk the photo was even further proof, we could not get an investigator close enough to be in the windowpane.
How to submit photos: emailing directly from the cell phone that the photo was taken on is the best for cell photos. All other photos should be attached to the email as the original, unedited file in its largest size possible to SRSinvestigations@yahoo.com. This allows the EXIF/MetaData to be included. We use this information to research for known defects in the camera, f-stop, shutter speed, and whether the flash fired, GPS location & date is used to include weather, insect population, and pollen reports. We cannot analyze screenshots, very low resolution, altered, or enhanced video, or photos that have been reduced in pixel dimensions, overly compressed, or have added graphics. Please include all the possible information about the photo, what was happening with other associated environmental or paranormal data. No inappropriate photos! By submitting a photo or video you agree to allow SRS Paranormal to perform an in-depth analysis and understand we will give our opinion on the cause paranormal or otherwise. By submitting a photo or video you give SRS Paranormal LLC the rights to share and publish the photo unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. You must have rights to the photo or video you have submitted for review.
